Chocolate Blitzen: The Dessert Drink to Complete Your Valentine’s Day

Happy [almost] Valentine’s Day! I have a special recipe for you to make with your Valentine to make the holiday even more romantic! (Also great for Galentine’s Day!)

Traditionally, people have incorporated alcohol (specifically champagne), chocolate, and/or a nice dessert into their Valentine’s celebration, but have you ever thought about combining all three?! Well, keep reading because I have just the thing for you!

This past Christmas, my dear friend and soon-to-be-aunt, Tricia Goldman, made Chocolate Blitzen martinis for the family Christmas party. Yes, CHOCOLATE MARTINIS!DSC_0219.JPG

Now, you may be thinking, “I’ve had a chocolate martini before. What’s the big deal?”

Let me tell you, it’s a big deal! Prior to having Tricia’s special recipe, I, too, had tasted chocolate martinis – from well-known restaurants, cruises, and even The Signature Room at the Hancock Building in Chicago (a must visit, by the way!).

While all those places had good chocolate martinis, nothing compared to this martini. The big difference you’ll notice between this recipe and others is the use of chocolate ice cream. Most chocolate martini recipes call for half-and-half, but we use ice cream instead, which helps dilute the taste of the vodka.

*Warning: The chocolate ice cream can make the alcohol hard to taste, which can be very dangerous!

The process to make these decadent martinis is super easy and requires very little prep time. So, don’t miss out on the opportunity to incorporate this special drink into your Valentine’s Day plans! I promise it’s the perfect way to end your romantic day (or any day really!).

Chocolate Blitzen Martini Recipe

Ingredients:

Servings: One large martini (*If you double the recipe, it really turns out to be enough for approximately three martini glasses.)

Instructions:

  1. Pour Hershey’s syrup in a ring on a plate (about the circumference of the martini glass rim). Invert the martini glass and spin the rim of the glass in the chocolate syrup.

Optional: Dip the rim of the martini glass in chocolate sprinkles.

  1. Blend vodka, crème de cacao, Baileys, and chocolate ice cream. Do not blend the ice cream completely to a liquid. Let it maintain some of its thickness.
  2. Pour mixture into chocolate-rimmed glass and add sprinkles on top.
